Don't Be Dense
Density in website design is an important measure of success. You don’t want to be too dense!
Please let the elements of your website breathe. One each page of your Squarespace site, there are sections and within those sections there are blocks, which could be an image block, a text block, an accordion, map, elements that we all see on a website. A lot of people try to cram in a lot of blocks or they pack them in too closely together. Give yourself some room (or padding as they call it in website design) between elements.
One of the most common mistakes I see when I am hired to redesign a Squarespace website is that the owner got anxious and wanted to stuff a lot of copy into a section without breaking it up with either images or different font weights. I use the term “hierarchy of information” as a measure of what order you want to present information to your audience in.
Before I even start designing a website, I create a plan on what I want to say first to the intended audiences. I ask the questions: So What? Who Cares? Why You? I borrow this from a public relations firm head I worked for. He’s a great guy named Darren Lisiten.
This line of questioning forces you to really think about what’s important to tell your prospects about your business. You are different. As business coach Alex Hormozi says “You are your niche,” you don’t have to find one or create one.
